An anti-vaccination protest has been held outside the constituency office of a Fianna Fail senator in Co Wexford.
The incident, which involved approximately 10 protesters, occurred outside Malcolm Byrne’s office in Gorey at around 2.30pm this afternoon.
The protest proceeded peacefully, and those present dispersed shortly after 4 in the afternoon.
Byrne has repeatedly spoken out in favor of vaccination as of late, ahead of the arrival of the Covid-19 vaccine early next year.
He was not present at the time of the protest, since he left shortly before.
“We knew it was going to happen, I was alerted to social media posts talking about it, although we thought it would be while I was there. There were only a handful of them, ”he said.
“One of the signs apparently said I’m batting for Satan, apparently.”
He said he believes at least one of the protesters is a local.
“They have the right to do so, we are lucky in Ireland to have the right to protest peacefully,” he said.
“But we have to handle the spread of misinformation on social media about science and vaccines. I just think those views are particularly dangerous. It’s the anti-5G, anti-mask team, ”he added.
Today there was a small protest against vaccination in my office in Gorey.
I respect the right to peaceful protest.
However, I will continue to speak out in support of science and vaccination. #VaccinesWork and we have to confront those who spread false news and misinformation.

Earlier this week, Gardaí confirmed that they were conducting investigations to establish whether something contained in the leaflets distributed to children and parents outside of schools in Ballincollig, Co Cork by anti-vaccination protesters warranted further investigation.
Gardaí was contacted about the flyers distributed Wednesday by two women who were not wearing masks.
The brochures contained misinformation about the safety, efficacy, and long-term effects of the nasal flu vaccine given to children. here.
