We had too much quality in the second half

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said their quality simply showed in the second half when they came back to defeat West Ham 3-1.

Second-half goals from Paul Pogba, Mason Greenwood and Marcus Rashford saw United come back to snatch all three points after Tomas Soucek overtook the Hammers at the Olympic Stadium.

Now it’s five wins in five away games for United, and they have fallen behind in all of them.

Solskjaer said: “There are many things that decide a football game.

“In the first half we had a lot of ball but we couldn’t create anything. In the second half we changed things tactically, we made more space for Bruno in the middle and the three goals were of excellent quality.

“That was the difference, I would say, the quality we had in the second half was too high.”

It was not an opinion shared by opponent David Moyes, who blamed a poor refereeing decision for the loss.

Hammers coach Moyes insisted the ball had gone out of play by at least two yards in preparation for Pogba’s tie, when United goalkeeper Dean Henderson cleared the field along the touchline.

“I probably had the best view of the house, the ball went over my head and I’m a couple yards from the field,” Moyes said.

“I’m disappointed that the linesman didn’t catch it. He didn’t make a decision about it. Maybe he was looking for an offside, but he would have said his first job was to check the ball. Offside.

“The reaction of the players tells you that the ball was out. I certainly feel that it played an important role in the game.

“We never regroup and we get it right and we have to correct that.”

The Hammers led at halftime through Soucek, and could have been further ahead had it not been for a questionable finish.

Sebastien Haller was the main culprit when he circled Henderson, only to somehow trip over his own feet instead of rolling the ball into an empty net.

Moyes added: “We had great chances to go up 2-0, maybe more, but we didn’t kill him.

“We did not show a clinical advantage in our finish and that was costly for us tonight.”

It meant that the 2,000 West Ham fans inside the London stadium, in the first Premier League game to have fans present since March, went home disappointed.

West Ham manager David Moyes was unhappy with United’s first goal

Moyes said: “I thought the fans were really good and I’m disappointed that we couldn’t give them the result, but they were loud.”

It was Bruno Fernandes, substitute at halftime, who turned the game around in favor of the visitors by having a hand in all three goals

The tie came in the 65th minute when Fernandes picked up Henderson’s punt and fed Pogba, who edged past Lukasz Fabianski with a superb shot from 20 yards.

With West Ham reeling, United took the lead, and Fernandes got involved again, his back heel finding Alex Telles who whistled into a low center for Greenwood to take a bunt, spin and shoot home.

Then Fernandes played Rashford only to land his shot against a post, but the England man was not wrong with 10 minutes remaining.

Fernandes threw the ball straight to Juan Mata, who found Rashford running again to complete the victory in style.
