Thousands of restaurants, cafes and gastropubs are reopening on Friday as pandemic restrictions are eased before Christmas.
It comes after six weeks of Level Five restrictions that closed deals across the country.
Finance Minister Paschal Donohoe has admitted to having mixed feelings about it, and the government tries to balance public health advice with the needs of business.
He said: “The feelings I have about it reflect many of the decisions that I have been involved in during the year.
“On the one hand, it is so tremendous that we will see tens of thousands of our fellow citizens go back to work this week.
“But, on the other hand, it is equally essential that when we are in our restaurants, when we are in our pubs that are open, when we are in our hotels, we have to respect not only the livelihood of those who are taking care of us, but also their health. . “
