At least hospitalized in hours of carnage
At least eight people have been hospitalized in road accidents in Ireland between Thursday night and Friday morning.
Emergency services have rushed into collisions and incidents across the country due to slippery conditions.
Five teenagers were rushed to hospital late Thursday after a serious accident on Bog Road in Cork at 9:30 pm.
Three adolescent men and two women were taken to Cork University Hospital for treatment for serious injuries, CorkBeo reports.
The carnage on the roads continued this morning with AA Roadwatch reporting a flurry of wrecks and road closures.
Two people have been hospitalized after a car accident on the N69 in Kerry this morning; neither is believed to be seriously injured.
The road was closed for a time, but has since reopened.
Another man is in hospital with serious injuries after a collision on the N55 in Athlone, Westmeath.
Gardai has closed this trail while dealing with the incident.
A spokesperson said: “Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of a traffic collision this morning, Friday December 4, 2020 on the N55 in Athlone, Co. Westmeath. A man was taken to hospital for treatment for serious injuries. “
The M1 at Louth was also closed for a time this morning due to an emergency after a series of collisions.
The Garda spokesperson added: ‘Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of multiple traffic collisions on the M1 this morning, Friday 4 December 2020 in Co. Louth. No serious injuries were reported and the road is currently open. “
