Ireland’s pubs and restaurants are reopening after being closed for the past six weeks.

Restaurants, pubs and cafes across the country await a busy weekend with crowds of diners coming through the doors.

And everyone who decides to use the services is expected to follow all the rules set by Failte Ireland and the Government.

But are you fully aware of what they are? Here are some quick questions and answers to give you everything you need to know.

Questions and answers about the rules of bars and restaurants

Can I go to a pub or restaurant and just drink?

Unfortunately, if you are looking for a simple pint, it will have to be accompanied by a hearty meal.

The same rule of summer is back and you will have to fork out € 9 for something to eat.

Can I stay hours?

Well that depends on where you actually go, the rule of the hour and the set time of 45 minutes is still there depending on how far apart the restaurant is.

If you are more than 2 m from the next table, you can stay longer.

Can I meet a large group of friends?

You can meet up to six people and dine with them at a table, although larger groups are not allowed.

There is no limit to the number of households that can attend.

My local pub has a chipper next to it, can you open it?

Another big change from the summer rules, pubs must have a kitchen on site to open, which is why the term gastropub is being used.

So technically this won’t work.

Can I go into a restaurant?

Many restaurants have said that they are seeing a large number of reservations right now.

So you can get in, but many places recommend booking in advance.
