The Gardaí is investigating the deaths of two homeless men whose bodies were found in a shelter in the city of Waterford last night.

It is understood that emergency services were called to the shelter, McGwire House, on Bath Street in Waterford around 4.45pm

They found a man, in his 40s, who was unresponsive and was later pronounced dead.

While at the scene, they found another man, also in his 40s, in a bed and he was also pronounced dead.

Both bodies have been removed from the scene and autopsies will be performed.

Gardaí said that the results of the autopsies will determine the course of his investigations.

It is believed that there was no foul play in either of the two deaths.

McGwire House is a 32-unit emergency shelter shelter for adult men and is run by the St Vincent de Paul charity.

In a statement, a spokesman said that two homeless men “sadly lost their lives” and described what happened as “very tragic and sad.”

The spokesperson confirmed that the relevant authorities have been notified.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the deceased, family and friends. May they rest in peace.”
