The great blues player, Diarmuid Connolly, believes that Dublin footballers are “way ahead” of the rest in their bid for six straight games.
Dublin beat the Leinster Championship and faced the Ulster Cavan bosses in the Irish semi-final on Saturday.
Dessie Farrell’s men enjoyed an average margin of victory of about 18 points en route to a 10th consecutive Delaney Cup, and are clear favorites to advance to the final in Ireland this weekend.
And while Mickey Graham’s team already surprised heavyweights Monaghan and Donegal on their way to Croke Park, Connolly fears the worst for Cavan given the Dubs’ current form.
“To be totally honest, I can see something similar happened to Cavan to what happened to Meath in the SFC final in Leinster,” Connolly said.
“I hope that’s not the case. Cavan likes to be the favorite and has already delivered two Division 1 teams in Monaghan and Donegal, but I really don’t see anything stopping Dublin.
“The hunger they have for the venues, the staff they have and the way they are playing. They are fairways ahead of everyone at the moment.”
The Boys in Blue hero hung up his boots last summer after helping his county win an unprecedented five-in-a-row title in all of Ireland, and acknowledges that Cavan must target the expulsions of his former teammate Stephen Cluxton.
However, the St. Vincent clubman doesn’t give Cavan a chance against a Dublin team that is a ‘completely different animal’ within the limits of Croke Park.
“Cavan needs to go after Stephen Cluxton’s kicks,” he told BoyleSports. “They need to compete there, and they need to be able to hold back their own kicks if they want to have any hope of reaching 13 points from Dublin.
“Dublin at Croke Park is a completely different animal. Their experience there is so good. The field is so wide and so long, but Dublin seems so tight when they are defending, and they can make it so big when they are attacking.”
“Cavan needs to get off to a good start and bring in his key players early and try to make him look respectable, but I can’t see that happen.”
