Starting tomorrow, cafes, restaurants and pubs serving food will be able to reopen their indoor dining rooms to the public, but this time the rules are slightly different.
The country reverted to Level 3 restrictions earlier this week, and most of the previous regulations are back in effect, along with some additional measures that are expected to slow the spread of the virus.
Substantial meals
For example, for pubs to allow eating indoors, they must offer a “substantial meal” for a minimum value of € 9. But now they must also prepare their food on the spot.
As such, non-food pubs can only open for takeout and delivery.
Time limits
As before, diners will have one hour and 45 minutes to enjoy their food and shops will close at 11:30 p.m. However, anyone who sits more than two meters from the nearest table can stay longer.
A maximum of six people can be seated at a table. Hotels can also offer indoor dining starting tomorrow and will have the same rules as restaurants and food pubs.
Wet pubs
Taoiseach Micheál Martin announced these rules last Friday, adding that nothing in the research available to the government supports a new reopening of non-food pubs.
“I know how deeply frustrating this will be for business owners in this sector,” he said. “I fully accept your willingness to abide by the guidelines, but the reality is that reopening inner hospitality carries risks and there is only one point where we can safely get there.”
However, both the Licensed Vintners Association and the Irish Vintners Federation said the Government’s report was “smear of the industry”.
“How a serious decision maker could use this deeply inadequate report as a justification for decimating half the industry tells us a lot about the levels of consideration shown by this government towards Irish pubs,” said VFI CEO. , Padraig Cribben.
Visits
Starting December 7, people in nursing homes or residential care centers can have one visit of one person per week.
You are not yet allowed to have visitors in your home or garden unless you are in a social bubble, and the public is reminded to only meet up to six people from two other households. People are also expected to remain in their county.
Travel
However, from December 18 through January 2021, certain restrictions will be lifted or eased during the Christmas period.
Anyone can travel anywhere in Ireland, while being allowed to reunite with two other households in their home, although face covers must be worn and individuals must maintain social distancing.
