MET ÉIREANN HAS predicted a “significant change” in the weather pattern starting tonight, with a noticeably colder and wintry period ahead.

A weather advisory will be available from 4 pm tomorrow through Friday night.

The advisory says the weather will be much colder, with sharp to severe frosts, frozen sections and some winter rains.

Starting tomorrow, the forecaster said it will feel “much colder than recently” with a strong west and northwest wind that will add an additional “wind chill factor.”

Daytime temperatures starting tomorrow will be at unique low numbers, and nighttime temperatures will be at zero or lower at times.

As the week progresses, there will be a combination of showers and sunny / clear showers, with some winter showers expected, especially on Thursdays and Fridays.

Snowfall is also likely on high ground, Met Éireann said. Snowfall at lower levels is also possible later this week.

Frost and ice are anticipated in many areas overnight, which will lead to difficult road conditions as frost persists in some parts until the wee hours of the morning.

As for the rest of tonight, it is expected to be mostly dry and cloudy with patches and drizzle and fog. Tonight it will be cloudy with scattered outbreaks of rain and drizzle in parts.
