Gardai and emergency services on the scene after the man, 40, dies in a car accident in Galway

A man in his 40s has sadly died after a horrific car accident in Galway this morning.

Gardai and other emergency services remain at the scene this afternoon after the 6:30 a.m. collision at Abbeyknockmoy.

The driver of the car was seriously injured in the accident and was taken to Galway University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Officers are asking anyone who has been in the area at the time to contact them.

A Garda spokesperson said: “The Gardaí is currently at the scene of a fatal single vehicle traffic collision that occurred at approximately 6:30 am on Monday, November 30, 2020, in Abbeyknockmoy, County Galway.

“The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle involved, a man in his 40s, was seriously injured during the collision and was transported to Galway University Hospital, where he died. An autopsy will be performed at a later date.

“Forensic collision investigators are currently technically examining the scene and the road is closed for this exam to take place. Local detours have been established.”

“Gardaí is asking for witnesses to this collision to come forward. Gardaí is also asking road users to be able to have camera footage (including dash cam) traveling in the Abbeyknockmoy area at approximately 6:30 am. A.M. For these images to be available to Gardaí.
