Hundreds of popular Land Rover vehicles have been recalled in Ireland for fear of fires.
Certain Land Rover Range Rover Evoque and Land Rover Discovery Sport vehicles are subject to voluntary recall.
A total of 444 vehicles in the Republic of Ireland manufactured between May 25, 2018 and October 2, 2020 are affected.
The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission explained that an “electrical overload event” could cause a fire.
A JPAC spokesperson said: “Jaguar Land Rover Ireland Limited is conducting a voluntary recall of certain” Land Rover Range Rover Evoque “and” Land Rover Discovery Sport “passenger vehicles.
“A concern has been identified with certain 2019 and 2020 Range Rover Evoque and Discovery Sport MHEV vehicles in which an electrical overload event in the 48-volt (V) electrical system may cause a fault effect transistor. metal oxide semiconductor field (MOSFET).
“MOSFET failure can cause electrical cascade fault, causing the DCDC converter to experience a short circuit where the 12V circuit is shorted to ground. When the DCDC converter experiences a short to ground, the 12V electrical system discharged indicated by the battery warning light on the instrument cluster.
“In extreme cases, vehicle occupants may notice a burning smell and / or smoke from the DCDC converter vent in the passenger compartment. Where there is sufficient oxygen, a sustained vehicle fire can occur.
“Jaguar Land Rover Ireland Limited will contact all affected customers directly to advise them to schedule an appointment with their local dealer or authorized repairer, where necessary work will be done on the vehicles.
