The two missing walkers on the Dingle Peninsula in Co Kerry have been found safe and sound.
The man and woman were found by a joint Kerry Mountain Rescue and Dingle Coastguard team.
Frank Heidtke of the Dingle Coast Guard said the man and woman were located about 2.5 miles from Lake Annascaul.
“They were not far from Windy Gap, which is a very exposed area. They are in good health, but very happy to have been found,” said Mr. Heidtke.
The search involving the Dingle Coastguard, Kerry Mountain Rescue, and local gardaí had focused on a wide search area in the mountains north of Lake Annascaul.
The alarm had gone off last night when the two walkers did not return to their car. Conditions in the mountains were described as very bad, with fog and dense fog.
The search was assisted by Valentia Coastguard. Poor visibility had prevented the Coast Guard helicopter from deploying.
Up to 40 rescuers were divided into various teams that searched the mountains above Gleann Tí an Easaigh, Macha na Bó, and Lake Annascaul.
The missing hikers were located shortly after 11:30 pm last night and then helped down the mountain.
