Update on the opening date of pub and restaurant like gyms, hair salons and shops to open doors early

Gyms, hair salons, retail stores and movie theaters are likely to open now on December 1 when the closure is lifted.

The cabinet will meet this afternoon where any final decisions will be made before the announcement of the Taoiseach.

There were some doubts about whether the lockdown would be officially lifted on Tuesday or Wednesday, and it is now more likely on Tuesday.

This means that the retail stores will be back on Tuesday, while you can also get your hair cut one more time.

Fitness gurus will be delighted that the gyms will reportedly open on Tuesday as well.

As for bars and restaurants, the dream of wet pubs seems to be dead, but the rest will potentially open on December 4.

Other touted dates have been December 7 and 11, and those finer details will be decided in Cabinet.

Speaking before the meeting, Health Minister Stephen Donnelly said the country is in a good position as we prepare for the reopening.

Minister Donnelly told reporters: “I’ll tell you what I think we should be very happy with, the conversation we are having is about how we open Ireland for December, how we open Ireland for Christmas.

“There are tough decisions that need to be made, no question about it, but in Europe the conversations my counterparts have are about how to stop an escalation in Covid fatalities.”
