The Government is ready to confirm plans today that will see the opening of restaurants and pubs serving food in December in final talks on a Level 5 exit plan.
The cabinet subcommittee met Thursday night for nearly five hours and is believed to have rejected calls from NPHET to stay on a strict and extensive Level 3 map.
NPHET warned Ministers that pubs and restaurants should continue to offer takeaway service only throughout December.
But the government is considering opening dates for restaurants and gastronomic pubs between December 4 and 11, and December 7 is considered the “ideal” opening date.
And pubs and restaurants will definitely not be limited to takeout at Christmas according to sources.
Government leaders told Dublin Live last night that they are not following all of NPHET’s advice.
A member of the select committee of the most important members of the government told Dublin Live as they left the high-stakes meeting: “It’s not going to be NPHET, NPHET, NPHET.
Dublin Live met with members of each of the three parties, Fianna Fáil, Fine Gael and the Greens as they left the government buildings just before a quarter to ten, as the special cabinet subcommittee on Covid ended up for the night.
It was made clear that the austere advice of the NPHET medical hawks will not be taken in its entirety.
Another member of the crisis committee agreed when Dublin Live told him as he left the meeting at 9:40 pm.
“The (Cabinet) meeting will decide, but we will consider more than NPHET.”
But, it is understood that there will be stricter rules in terms of how long people can stay and how many people can attend the premises at the same time.
Ministers are said to enforce a strict set of rules about family reunions during Christmas, and December 18 is considered the date that travel restrictions will be extended, allowing people to leave their county.
Until then, it is believed that home visits will be prohibited and will remain the same as Level 5.
