Multiple Children Test Positive for Covid-19 at Tipperary Elementary School

Multiple cases of coronavirus have been confirmed at an elementary school in Co Tipperary.

An urgent letter was sent to parents on Tuesday, November 24th.

School officials said the children who tested positive were in two separate classes.

And they confirmed that none of the children had been in school “for several days.”

The letter sent to parents and guardians reads: “I am writing to inform you that two students from separate classes have tested positive for Covid-19 today.

“These students have not been to school for several days and both were asymptomatic over the weekend. You will appreciate that the school has to respect the confidentiality of the families involved and must comply with data protection laws.

“If your child has not been identified as a close contact, they do not need a test and can continue to attend school safely and normally. No further action is required on your part.”

It comes after it emerged earlier this week that an elementary school in Co Cork will close for two weeks after 17 pupils tested positive for Covid-19.

Gaelscoil Ui Drisceoil in Glanmire has seen outbreaks in various classes and, as a result, parents have been told that the school will close until December 8.

In a letter sent to parents and guardians, school officials confirmed that several children tested positive for coronavirus, reports Cork Beo.

It reads: “The HSE will contact people considered close contacts to track and test the contacts.

“We apologize that neither the Board nor the school has the authority to inform parents in this regard or to disclose the specific classes in question to the school at large.

“Under no circumstances should parents rule out a high fever or any other symptom such as a ‘cold’ and send their child to school.”
