The Garda commissioner has said that gardaí is not investigating any crime in connection with reports of thousands of intimate images of Irish women that were posted on the internet without the women’s consent.

Drew Harris said Gardaí examined more than 10,000 images and found no images of child abuse.

He also said that Gardaí has ​​not received complaints from anyone alleging sexual abuse, coercion or image-based harassment in relation to these images.

The commissioner said the website hosting these images is not based in Ireland, but Gardaí has ​​contacted law enforcement in the host country who have assisted with their queries.

A group of victims had reported that hundreds of thousands of intimate images of Irish women had been stolen and posted online without their consent, but the commissioner said Gardaí found no evidence of this.

However, it did attract anyone who fears or believes that they may be a victim of this type of crime.
