A mother of two who threw a television from the second-floor balcony, which fell on a woman walking below, received a totally suspended sentence.

Caroline Connors (34) launched TV in “a moment of madness.” The thrown device injured a woman who was walking hand in hand with her granddaughter.

Connors of South Central Apartments, Blackthorn Drive, Sandyford, Dublin pleaded guilty in Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to endangering at his home on June 27, 2018. He has two prior convictions for criminal damages and public order.

Hit by the tv

Garda Donal Tully told Ronan Prendergast BL, prosecuting, that on the afternoon in question, a woman was crossing a crosswalk with her granddaughter when a television fell on top of her, striking her and knocking her to the ground.

Gda Tully said the woman’s granddaughter had been holding her hand and was on the other side of her towards where the television was landing. The woman suffered leg and chest injuries and went to hospital the same day.

The court heard that the victim expressed concern that she and her granddaughter may have been killed.

Connors, who was seen picking up pieces of television after the incident, had thrown it from the second-floor balcony of her apartment. She was found to be drunk at the time of her arrest.

Excuse

In an interview with Gardaí, Connors admitted that he threw the television and left it to his ex-partner “driving her crazy.” He said he would apologize to the injured woman and acknowledged that the incident could have been much worse.

Gda Tully agreed with Maeve McCabe BL, arguing, that her client had no intention of hitting anyone when he threw the television. He agreed that Connors has launched television in “a moment of madness.”

Ms. McCabe said that her client had had an argument with her ex-partner prior to the offense and that he had physically assaulted her. He said that in a moment of anger his client took the television and threw it out the window.

The lawyer said his client cared for both of his parents before their death, and that he has had alcohol problems, for which he has received treatment. He said his client has shared custody of their two children.

Judge Pauline Codd sentenced Connors to three years in prison, but suspended the entire sentence under strict conditions.
