Ryan Tubridy has indicated that he will break travel restrictions during Christmas if the government does not allow families across the country to gather during the holiday period.
On his radio show this morning, Dubliner suggested that families across the country travel to see each other regardless of public health advice.
Ahead of an announcement about the departure of Level Five from Ireland on Friday, Tubs said the “leak” coming from the government “appears to be positive,” adding: “It seems to suggest that we may be able to move across the country, across counties and soon .
“I think it’s good,” said the 47-year-old, before surprising some listeners by arguing: “We have to be able to see our families, we have to be able to be together.
“There is no way around it, and we would do it anyway.
“I think we would just say, ‘Sorry guys, we’re not staying home.’
Bathtubs may not have to break any restrictions, as it seems likely that travel will be allowed sometime in December.
He said the easing of restrictions could allow people to “go see people” between December 18 and January 2.
“At this stage,” he added, “it’s almost like: you can do it, but would you be careful doing it?
So I think they seem to be making the right noises, at this point. “
A decision on lifting the Level Five lockdown measures is expected on Friday night, ahead of the highly anticipated Late Late Toy Show.
On the radio this morning, Tubridy praised RTE’s “incredibly imaginative” backroom staff for creating a “wonderland” at the Toy Show studio.
He told listeners that they can expect to hear more details tomorrow on exactly what form the big night will take, with answers to be given to an information-hungry audience.
For today, Tubridy did not discuss the details, but said, “The trauma will end and we will bring you some light on Friday night.
