Ireland has seen more encouraging signs after recording another drop in Covid-19 cases.
Only 226 new infections were confirmed tonight, representing another drop compared to last week.
But sadly, there were six other deaths associated with the disease.
There have been a total of 2,028 Covid-19 related deaths in Ireland, while the number of confirmed cases here is now 70,930.
Of the cases reported today:
- 115 are men / 109 are women
- 56% are under 45 years old
- The average age is 42 years.
As of 2:00 p.m. today, 292 patients are hospitalized with Covid-19, of which 36 are in the ICU.
There have been 18 additional hospitalizations in the last 24 hours.
The drop in cases across the country meant that there were a significant number of counties that saw fewer than five infections.
And four counties, Roscommon, Offaly, Sligo and Leitrim, have not registered any new cases.
Despite the encouraging signs, Tanaiste Leo Varadkar warned that more restrictions might be needed in the New Year after the measures for Christmas are eased.
