Laois GAA bosses will meet shortly to begin the process of finding a new hurling manager following Eddie Brennan’s departure.
The great Kilkenny, an eight-time winner from Ireland, confirmed the news on Tuesday, a fortnight after an off-the-record interview criticizing Laois officials was aired in error.
During the segment, Brennan named the individual officers and spoke of the board members ‘holding onto Laois for years’ while advocating for increased support for pitching within the county.
Brennan, who guided the county to the 2019 Ireland quarterfinal after winning the Joe McDonagh Cup and losing a qualifying point to Clare earlier this month, declined to comment on the situation until a statement was released. on Tuesday confirming his departure after two seasons.
The statement was signed by Brennan and members of the back room team Niall Corcoran and Tommy Fitzgerald.

According to Laois Today, the minutes of a meeting of Laois GAA officials recorded “disappointment at the disparaging comments” made by Brennan and that “the entire executive committee was effectively tarnished and, unfortunately, as a result, the Laois GAA brand.”
In response to Brennan’s departure, Laois GAA tweeted that “He is disappointed that our outgoing management team has decided not to commit for 2021. Laois GAA would like to thank Eddie, Niall and Tommy for their dedication and excellent work over the past two years. . Laois GAA will meet shortly to formalize a process for the next appointment ”.
