Fifth Person Arrested for Alleged Corrupt Practices at the Kildare and Wicklow Board of Education Training

Gardaí arrested a FIFTH PERSON as part of an ongoing investigation into alleged corrupt practices at the Kildare and Wicklow Educational Training Board (KWETB).

Gardaí, attached to the Garda National Office for Economic Crimes (GNECB), with the support of the Eastern Region Armed Support Unit, arrested a man in his 40s this morning.

The operation was carried out as part of Operation Lakefront by detectives attached to the Anti-Corruption Unit, GNECB, in Co Kildare.

It is the fifth arrest as part of this ongoing investigation.

The man was arrested for offenses contrary to the Prevention of Corruption Laws and is currently being detained at Tullamore Garda station under section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act 2007.

A fourth arrest in connection with this investigation occurred on November 5.

A man in his 40s was arrested and detained under Article 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984 at Naas Garda Station. He was later released without charge.

In recent months, two other men and a woman were also arrested as part of the complaint and released without charge.

Files are being prepared for the Director of the Public Ministry.
