Three young Afghans, including a child, were found inside a trailer after a motorist on a main Dublin road alerted the driver of a truck hitting from inside the container.

The driver left Nangor Road towards nearby Park West in Clondalkin, west of Dublin, and Gardaí sounded upon hearing the knocks.

When the gardaí from the nearby Ballyfermot station arrived at 4:20 pm Monday and opened the trailer, they found three men inside.

All three people had documents that appeared to show that they were Afghan citizens.

According to the documents, one was 16 years old, while the others were 20 and 22 years old.

Gardaí said the truck had arrived from a ferry at Rosslare port on Monday.

All three were taken by gardaí to Ballyfermot station, where they received a meal and a doctor was called.

The sources said there were “no visible injuries.”

An interpreter was also sought to help the gardaí and other authorities.

Tusla, the Agency for Children and Families, was informed regarding the care of the minor.

All three are believed to have been accommodated.

It is not yet known if any of them have applied for asylum.

It is understood that the driver was not arrested, but details were taken from him.

The Gardaí will take statements from the Afghans and try to trace their route.

A statement previously issued by Garda HQ said that the Gardaí in Clondalkin was investigating “possible immigration offenses.”

He said the truck arrived in Park West after entering the country through the port of Rosslare.

“When the driver opened the truck, three men were found in the trailer,” he said.

He said the trailer was taken away for a technical examination.
