A weather advisory was issued for eight counties ahead of a horrible period of rain on Monday and Tuesday.
All of Connacht, as well as Donegal, Kerry and Clare have received the Met Eireann yellow rain status warning.
The warning begins at 2 pm on Monday and will be in effect until 2 pm on Tuesday.
A forecaster for Met Eireann said: “Heavy rains later on Monday, Monday night and Tuesday may cause some rivers and localized flooding.”
Bad weather is expected across the country for the next several days as cooler air enters.
A forecaster from Met Eireann added: “Monday will start out mostly dry with some bright spells in the east. Clouds will increase and rain will develop in the west and northwest during the morning. It will spread over much of Connacht and Ulster and turn persistent and heavy at times.
“Maximum temperatures of 10 to 12 degrees with refreshing winds from the south, strong on the coasts.
“On Monday night, heavy or persistent rain will affect much of Ulster, Connacht and western Munster. Lower temperatures of 5 to 9 degrees.
“Tuesday will be mostly cloudy with heavy or persistent rains in the western half of the country and the risk of localized flooding. There will be some more rains to the east.
“Rain in the west will extend east into the afternoon and evening with clear spells and a few showers to follow Tuesday night. Higher temperatures of 10 to 12 degrees with cool winds from the south will turn from the west. and they will decrease as the rain clears. The night will be cold with minimum temperatures of 0 to 4 degrees “.
