CORK has made three changes to the starting 15 that beat Kerry in Sunday’s Munster soccer final against Tipperary.
Seán Powter is out with injury and Paul Ring falls to the bench while Kevin Flahive is not on the squad this time.
Tadhg Corkery and Paul Ring will start on defense, with Luke Connolly leading. Corkery and Ring join Seán Meehan, Kevin O’Donovan and Maurice Shanley in a youth defense, with all five being 22 and younger. Mattie Taylor, in his third season on the roster, is the 27-year veteran.
Cathail O’Mahony and Aidan Browne join matchday 26 for the clash that begins at 1.30 pm in Páirc Uí Chaoimh and is live on RTE 2.
There’s plenty of firepower on the bench, including Kerry goal hero Paul Kerrigan Mark Keane, Michael Hurley and last year’s All-Ireland U20 winners Cathail O’Mahony and Damien Gore. With extra time included, Ronan McCarthy and his selectors used 24 players against Kerry.
Tipp appointed his team on Friday night, with Steven O’Brien deemed fit enough to break into midfield, Brian Fox picked at 13 and is likely to be deployed as Australian Rules sweeper and dynamo Colin O ‘ Riordan given the go-ahead by Sydney Swans to combine as a submissive.
It wouldn’t be a huge surprise to see O’Riordan come in early, especially with O’Brien’s injury problems.
On the 100th anniversary of Bloody Sunday, Tipp has no shortage of motivation and will be sporting commemorative shirts in the Páirc. Cork will have to get tough on Conor Sweeney, who has caused them big problems in previous games.
Michael Quinlivan is the other Premier forward, but they must also keep an eye on Colman Kennedy, who previously played soccer for Cork City U19 and UCC. Winger Robbie Kiely won a county title with Carbery Rangers in 2016 and now lines up for Barryroe.
