World Rugby is looking for teams that celebrate too much on the field with concerns that some excessive yelling will be detrimental to the game, according to a member of Ireland’s management team.
Ireland will face England at Twickenham in the Fall Nations Cup at 3pm and kicking and skills coach Richie Murphy was asked yesterday about the hosts’ tendency to yell, howl and howl when awarded scrums and penalties.
Six Nations champions England beat Ireland in February at the same venue and listeners via ref-link could hear the Red Rose players “doing their best” at almost every breakout.

“If we get those victories, we should celebrate them too,” Murphy said.
“It’s a unique situation, obviously, where if you’re in the stadium you can hear everything, I’m sure you’re listening to it quite a bit on TV too, it will be interesting.
“I guess giving them a chance to be encouraged and yell and yell is where you have to stop it, making sure we don’t give them those opportunities.
“Don’t give them stuff to hit, making sure your play is pinned so you can play from behind, hopefully we’ll be in a situation where we’re in the game.
“It’s something that World Rugby is talking about in terms of how you celebrate those little wins and how you interact with the opposing team.
“I think [they are looking at] the direction of the celebration.
“Are you celebrating yourself or trying to rub it off on others? I guess it’s actually a bit of skill, you know.”
Meanwhile replacement prop Ed Byrne has been ruled out with injury, John Ryan gets a promotion to the bench.
