A MAN will appear in court this morning for sharing images and details on social media identifying a child convicted of the murder of Ana Kriegel.
Gardai has been conducting an extensive and ongoing investigation into the failure to comply with a court order promulgated to prevent the two 14-year-old boys from being named.
The two adolescents are also protected by a provision of the Children’s Law that prohibits the identification of minors accused or convicted of a crime.
The 30-year-old man will appear in Listowel District Court at 10.30am this morning, where he will be charged in connection with the circulation of images and details of a teenager convicted of the murder on social media.
Eleven people have already appeared in court as part of the extensive investigation.
‘LONG-TERM GARDA INVESTIGATION’
Gardai said in a statement today: “A man in his 30s is due to appear before Listowel District Court at 10:30 a.m. on the morning of Thursday, November 19, 2020, in connection with an ongoing Garda investigation into the circulation of images and details on social networks that claim to identify a teenager who was found guilty of the murder of Ana Kriegel.
“An investigation was launched when images and details were released online despite the existence of a court order preventing 14-year-olds from being named and a provision under the Juvenile Law that prohibits the identification of accused minors Or convicted of a crime.
“Eleven people have already appeared in court in relation to this matter following a lengthy Garda investigation led by the Gardaí based in the Dublin region.”
Ana Kriegel was just 14 years old when she was sexually assaulted and murdered at the abandoned Glenwood House in Lucan, Dublin, on May 14, 2018.
Two children, known as Child A and Child B, were convicted of her murder in June 2019 and sentenced the following November.
Child A was also convicted of aggravated sexual assault. He received a life sentence that will be reviewed after 12 years.
Child B received a 15-year sentence for murder with a review after 8 years, but is currently on appeal.
Both boys were only 13 years old when they subjected Ana to what the sentencing judge called “cruel and cruel” murder and they are the youngest people in the history of the state to be convicted of murder.
It was the State’s case that Boy B lured the teenager to the abandoned farm near her home where she was attacked and sexually assaulted by Boy A.
