Ireland coach Stephen Kenny faces FAI audience after “anti-English” video | Republic of Ireland

Republic of Ireland coach Stephen Kenny faces a disciplinary hearing in Dublin on Friday after showing his players an “anti-English” video ahead of the loss at Wembley last week.

The Guardian learned that Kenny left several members of his team uncomfortable with the content of the video, which was a mix of pro-Irish motivational messages and a history of Anglo-Irish relationships. In fact, some players are believed to have objected to what they were shown.

England ran out of winners 3-0 after goals from Harry Maguire, Jadon Sancho and Dominic Calvert-Lewin and this latest update will no doubt add to the mounting pressure on Kenny after a less than impressive start to his reign in Ireland.

He is still looking for his first win after eight games in charge of Ireland, including a penalty shootout loss to Slovakia that ended his hopes of qualifying for the final of Euro 2020. His team has managed to score only once in 2020 during the 1-1 draw with Bulgaria in September.

In a statement, the FAI said: “The Irish Football Association is aware of issues related to content shared with our Republic of Ireland senior men’s team ahead of the recent international friendly against England at Wembley Stadium.

“The FAI is already investigating this internally as a matter of urgency, in order to establish the facts. The FAI has no further comment to make at this time. “
