The FAI has launched an investigation “as a matter of urgency” into a video shown to the Republic of Ireland players before their recent friendly against England at Wembley.
Members of the governing body will meet Thursday night to discuss issues related to the video, which is believed to contain sensitive content.
The FAI said in a statement: “The Irish Football Association is aware of issues related to content shared with our Republic of Ireland senior men’s team ahead of the recent international friendly against England at Wembley Stadium.
“The FAI is already investigating this internally as a matter of urgency, in order to establish the facts. The FAI has no further comment to make at this time.”
Ireland are currently in the midst of a scoring drought that has seen them go more than 11 hours without an international goal.
Despite that, they were able to avoid relegation to Nations League C this week by leading Bulgaria to a 0-0 draw in Dublin, as they completed 2020 without a win, the first time they have not won in a calendar year since 1971. .
While the draw was enough to prevent relegation, it is not likely to be enough for Ireland to retain their spot in pot 2 for the World Cup qualifying draw on 7 December.
These are decided on the FIFA rankings, which is expected to drop from their current 20th spot by the end of the month and place them in the 3 hardest pot.
