As expected, the launch of Sony’s Playstation 5 caused headaches for gamers across the country as they endured long waits, website crashes, and ultimately the inability to purchase the console.
Even before the PS5 went on sale, certain retailers were doing their best to quell the inevitable disappointment by telling customers that stocks were limited and that not everyone would be able to buy the impressive computer.
However, with Christmas fast approaching, stores will be eager to restock their PS5 stock, but what is the current situation for gamers and stores across the country?
Argus
A visit to the Argos home page shows an image that says “We don’t have stock available for launch day, but we’ll have more soon. We’re out of stock on PlayStation 5.”
The store also has the option to sign up to receive availability alerts.
When asked about the restoration of the PS5, a customer service representative on Twitter said: “Hello, we have unfortunately received no news on when we will get more stock so far.”

This morning, the retailer posted a message saying, “Our website is experiencing high traffic and our team is working to resolve it. We appreciate your patience. Thank you.”
With gamers eager to get their hands on the PS5, the next question was the obvious one: when would the site be fully operational?
“We are experiencing technical issues on the website due to increased traffic. We hope to resolve this issue shortly,” was his last reply at the time of writing.
The retailer also added that for now, they will only have the disc editions of the PS5.
In a statement that was released, Harvey Norman said: “We are only selling online and there are no units available in store. Traffic increased significantly on our site this morning, which has caused some problems, however we encourage customers to be patient and Refresh the page. When our online stock runs out, we will update our website social channels. For the latest updates, please encourage customers to check Facebook / Instagram etc.

Curry’s PC World also released a statement that disappointed gamers who were eager to purchase the new console.
“There will be no PS5 available to buy today. We know this is disappointing news and we are working very hard to get more stock. Please check our social channels for more updates on availability,” they said.
Tesco
The Tesco Ireland website also experienced some issues this morning with a statement posted on social media saying “We are experiencing some technical issues this morning”. Our online service should be back online shortly. If you continue to have problems, send me a quick DM with your full name, email and home address. “
A quick search on the Tesco Ireland website for the PS5 indicates that the product is currently out of stock.
Tesco adds that at the moment: “This product is only available for delivery from Tuesday, November 24 to Friday, November 27”.
Smyths
Both editions of the console are completely sold out in all Smyths stores in Ireland.
A statement reads: “If you have already pre-ordered, your order will be available on launch day, Thursday, November 19. We are working to make more stock available for pre-order. Please check back soon for availability updates. out of stock. “
