The heads of health from the National Public Health Emergency Team will meet today to discuss the coronavirus situation in Ireland as worrying trends continue to emerge.
Ireland passed a grim milestone yesterday after the death toll exceeded 2,000.
The nation hit the unwanted milestone after 12 more deaths were confirmed Wednesday night.
The medical director warned in recent days that the country has just two weeks to reduce the spread of the virus to a manageable level before the restrictions expire.
Dr Tony Holohan said: “This pandemic has affected, directly and indirectly, families and communities across Ireland.

“It is important that we continue to work together if we want to suppress this virus and protect as many people as possible.
“For the next two weeks, work from home, stay home, and follow public health advice.”
Level five will end on December 1 before the Christmas period, however the path to easing the restrictions remains unclear as Taoiseach Micheal Martin has told his party colleagues that tough decisions will have to be made.
Martin told a party parliamentary meeting that there will be a debate on Covid-19 in the Dáil next week to discuss the exit strategy from the blockade.
A source said that according to Martin, the plan to get out of Level Five is going ahead as people needed to have a “healthy Christmas.”
However, it is understood that he said that the hotel sector could be a problem.
Health Minister Stephen Donnelly has indicated there is “no desire” to extend Level 5 restrictions beyond December 10; however, some strict rules are likely to be upheld.
Last night Donnelly said the fact that 2,000 people have died from Covid-19 is a sad and sobering milestone that has been reached.
