Hoops duo and Parrott called when Covid ruled out two

Shamrock Rovers duo Graham Burke and Aaron McEneff are among the four most-called-up players for the Republic of Ireland team after the number of players discarded from the original group rose to 13 today.

Former U21 player Jack Taylor from the Peterborough League 1 squad also joins the squad, while Troy Parrott has been promoted to the senior team from Jim Crawford’s group.

Burke has two games with Martin O’Neill since 2018, scoring against the United States in a friendly.

McEneff, a 25-year-old midfielder and standout for the Hoops this season, played minor football for Northern Ireland, but chose to play for the Republic of Ireland several years ago.

Adam Idah has retired due to injury. Matt Doherty and James McClean tested positive for Covid-19.

Stephen Kenny is still awaiting his first win as Ireland’s coach and the coronavirus has contributed to his difficult introduction to international top management.

A total of 13 named original team players are unavailable to face Bulgaria, including suspended Jeff Hendrick and Jayson Molumby.

Idah, Seamus Coleman, Enda Stevens, Aaron Connolly, Alan Browne, James McCarthy, Callum Robinson, John Egan and Harry Arter round out the discarded dozen.
