A recap of Sunday’s Gaelic football action as Meath, Dublin and Cavan won the provincial semi-finals.

Meath 5-9 Kildare 0-15

Meath has reached the Leinster final for the second year in a row. But Andy McEntee’s charges enter the decisive provincial with much more momentum than in 2019, 17 months after his 16-point loss to Dublin.

The Royals followed up their 7-14 to 0-7 victory over Wicklow with a nine-point victory over Kildare. Interestingly, to date they have scored 12 goals in their two championship games.

But not everything was easy for Meath. Six consecutive points at the end of the first half saw the Lilywhites go from four points each, to 0-10 to 0-4. Jimmy Hyland led the line in impressive fashion as Jack O’Connor’s team seemed to have real momentum in the game.

But Meath got going after the break. Cillian O’Sullivan, Jordan Morris, Mathew Costello, Joey Wallace and Jason Scully sent umpires running for green flags as the Royals turned the game around.

After a promising campaign in Division 1, Meath reaches the Leinster final, where they will feel they have nothing to lose.

Dublin 2-23 Laois 0-6

Dublin moved on to the decisive provincial with an easy win over Laois at Croke Park.

O’Moore County managed to keep it tight in the early stages, with the Dubs leading 0-3 to 0-2 in the first water break.

However, Dessie Farrell’s charges began to show their superiority on the scoreboard, as they scored 1-4 without a response before the break, with Seán Bugler at the net.

It was all one-way traffic after the restart. Ciarán Kilkenny scored a goal as they broke into a 23-point victory.

Dublin will face Meath next Saturday in the Leinster final as they pursue their 10th consecutive Delaney Cup win.

Dig 1-14 Down 1-13

Cavan will face Donegal in the Ulster final for the second year in a row, after County Breffni staged a surprising comeback against Down at the Athletic Grounds.

For the third game in a row, Mickey Graham’s charges found themselves facing a deficit at the midpoint, as Morne County led by eight. A goal from Ceilium Doherty helped Paddy Tally’s team build a 1-9 to 0-4 band at halftime.

But Cavan made a remarkable comeback. A Thomas Galligan point tied the game nine minutes from time, after Martin Reilly found the net from the penalty spot.

Cavan scored seven points in a row to build a 1-14 to 1-11 lead and despite a late recovery from Down, Breffni’s team held on for a narrow win.
