Kenny goes on the attack as the team to face Wales is named

Stephen Kenny appointed an attacking-minded starting eleven for today’s UEFA Nations League game against Wales at Cardiff City Stadium.

The manager is still looking for his first win since taking over the national team, as his team enters their seventh game in charge since their first game in Bulgaria.

Adam Idah has been named to lead the line with James McClean and Daryl Horgan also chosen to start in that attacking trio.

McClean made a name for himself here in 2017 by scoring the only goal of the game in Ireland’s World Cup qualifying win, however he was sent off in the same match last month.

The Stoke City man looks set to start on the left of the three with Horgan, who impressed against England, will hug the right flank.

Jayson Molumby impressed when he entered against England on Thursday night at Wembley and was rewarded with a place in the starting eleven. Jeff Hendrick and Robbie Brady make up the midfield unit.

Brady, who impressed in the first game against Wales last month, seems set to take on the role of No. 10, tasked with linking midfield and attack.

Exhausted by injuries and players discarded for reasons other than football, the coach appointed four makeshift defenders with captain Shane Duffy joined at the heart of the defense by Kevin Long.

Matt Doherty looks ready to line up on the left back once more, while Dara O’Shea will play on the right back, with Darren Randolph in goal.

Gareth Bale has been named to the Wales squad and the Spurs man will be the team captain, while David Brooks and Daniel James will also line up in attack.

Kieffer Moore has been left out of the XI, while Danny Ward replaces goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey between the posts. Rhys Norrington-Davies also starts for Wales.

Welsh: Danny Ward; Ben Davies, Joe Rodon, Chris Mepham, Neco Williams; Ethan Ampadu, Joe Morrell, Rhys Norrington-Davies; Daniel James, David Brooks, Gareth Bale (captain).

Ireland: Darren Randolph; Matt Doherty, Kevin Long, Shane Duffy (captain), Dara O’Shea; Jayson Molumby, Jeff Hendrick, Robbie Brady; Daryl Horgan, James McClean, Adam Idah.
