Met Eireann warns that conditions will get colder next week, as a famous Donegal postman has shared an update on his prediction of the White Christmas.
Michael Gallagher is known for making his long-term weather forecasts by observing the behavior of plants and animals.
He has already given his prediction of the White Christmas, telling RSVP Live: “A very, very cold winter awaits us.
“And I know it is going to snow, and it will be close to Christmas day. It will be there or there.”
And now you’ve shared your recipe for a traditional chicken soup, which you say is a great winter warmer.
“In the olden times they used to make chicken soup for cold weather, it’s great to keep you warm!” he said.
“Children and young people drank it in the morning but it could be taken at any time of the day, it is lovely to have it when you go in after a walk in the afternoon.
“You can make a big pot and then you have enough to last a few days, you can heat it whenever you want.
“It’s so simple, it’s good for you and good if you also have a cold or the flu.”
Meanwhile, conditions will stabilize somewhat later today and tomorrow, although a lot of wet weather is still expected.
A forecaster for Met Eireann said: “There will be more downpours or longer periods of rain this afternoon and tonight, with more persistent rains in the southwest moving north overnight, clearing once again in the southern half of the country by the morning.
“Overnight temperatures will be between 7 and 10 degrees, dropping to between 4 and 6 degrees around dawn. Moderate to cool winds from the south will remain strong on the coasts.
“Showers or showers for tomorrow Sunday, particularly in the first half of the day in the northern half of the country, with spells of sun and scattered showers in other places. The afternoon temperatures will reach 8 to 11 degrees with moderate to cool winds from the West”.
And as we move into next week, weather experts have warned that it will get colder and drier, risking a return of frost.
A forecaster added: “Rain in the west at dawn Monday, spreading east to all areas during the morning and afternoon. Highs of 12 or 13 degrees, with fresh winds from the southwest, strong on the coasts.
“Cloudy with showers in the west and north on Monday night. A mild and windy night with temperatures that do not drop below 10 degrees.
“Mild, windy and cloudy on Tuesday, with erratic rains in the south and west. Highs of 13 to 15 degrees, with fresh to strong south winds.
“Sunny periods with showers on Wednesday, more frequent in the west and north, with a more persistent period of rain in the northwest later. Morning highs of 9 or 10 degrees, but becomes cooler during the afternoon when a Cold front crosses the Fresh to strong winds from the southwest, veering northwest later.
“Cool and mostly dry Thursday, with spells of sunshine. Highs 7 to 9 degrees, with a moderate breeze from the northwest.
“Frost Thursday night with lows of +2 to -2 degrees.”
