ALL AREAS OF THE country experienced strong winds today as yellow wind status warnings have been issued in each province.

Met Éireann issued four separate state yellow wind advisories before strong, gusty winds from southwest to west. The gusts were forecast to reach speeds of over 90 kilometers per hour.

The first warning went into effect in Munster at 11 a.m. and lasted until 3 p.m.

The warnings were in effect in Leinster between 12 p.m. and 6 p.m. and in Connacht between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m.

In Cavan, Monaghan and Donegal, a warning will last until 9pm

The bad news is that the rest of the weekend is expected to be unresolved. Rain is expected across the country along with what Met Éireann described as “fresh westerly winds” that it said could become strong off the coast.

Along the coast, a yellow gale status warning was issued at 5am in anticipation of south to south-west winds reaching gale force 8 today over Irish coastal waters and in the Irish Sea.

Temperatures are also forecast to drop as we enter next week. The national forecaster said we can expect overnight frost in places with daytime temperatures of between six and eight degrees most days next week.
