Seamus Coleman will not participate in the Republic of Ireland’s friendly against England tonight.

The Donegal man suffered a recurrence of a previous injury in training last night at Wembley. Following a scan and evaluation by the FAI medical team, the captain of Ireland has been ruled out. Earlier today, midfielder James McCarthy left the panel for family reasons.

Cyrus Christie enters to replace Coleman.

Enda Stevens is also absent from the Ireland squad for this international window due to injury and as a result Matt Doherty will start in London on the left side of the defense with Christie on the right back.

Shane Duffy, who leads the team, and John Egan make up the bottom four, with Darren Randolph named in goal for the two sides’ first meeting since 2015.

In midfield, the coach had to plan without McCarthy, while Harry Arter took no chances as he was charging a punch going into the game.

Jeff Hendrick, Conor Hourihane and Alan Browne have been named to start in the middle of the park, while Daryl Horgan and Callum O’Dowda are selected in attacking roles on both flanks.

Adam Idah leads the line at Wembley.

Meanwhile, Jack Grealish starts for England. The former Ireland minor international has been rewarded for his exceptional club form with Aston Villa.

Ireland: Darren Randolph; Cyrus Christie, Matt Doherty, Shane Duffy, John Egan; Conor Hourihane, Jeff Hendrick, Alan Browne; Daryl Horgan, Callum O’Dowda, Adam Idah.

England: Nick Pope; Michael Keane, Harry Maguire, Tyrone Mings; Reece James, Mason Mount, Harry Winks, Jack Grealish, Bukayo Saka; Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Jadon Sancho
