Privately operated Covid-19 test centers are opening at Cork and Shannon airports as of today.
David Rock, CEO of RocDoc, which runs the two centers, has said the tests will cost between € 129 and € 149.
Speaking to RTÉ’s Morning Ireland, Rock said that it will be a response time of 72 hours and will be useful for those who need to travel or want to visit someone vulnerable and require testing beforehand.
The company will also offer express tests with results in a few hours at a cost of € 199.
“If it’s a positive result, customers will get a call from RocDoc to discuss what they will need to do from self-isolation, etc.,” Rock said.
He said the company hopes the service is busy and that it will help open up the economy again for key workers and businesses that must remain open during this pandemic and keep their workforce safe.
Yesterday, the Minister of State for European Affairs, Thomas Byrne, said the rules will change for those traveling to Ireland from a ‘red’ region after November 29, according to the new EU traffic light travel system.
He said passengers who receive a negative Covid-19 PCR test five days after arriving here will no longer have to restrict their movements.
