Ireland Weather: Met Eireann Warns Of Weekend From Hell As Winter Thunderstorms Approach

Met Eireann warned of hail and even thunderstorms this weekend, but there will be a soft and possibly even sunny start next week.

While Carlow Weather expert Alan O’Reilly added: “In some more positive news, weather models show a possibility of increased pressure next week, which could bring more stable weather.”

A forecaster from Met Eireann said: “Today will start out mostly dry with periods of sunshine or sunshine and one or two showers. It will become more cloudy with rain in the west around noon and will spread across the western half of the country during the afternoon and early evening. Highest temperatures 11 to 13 degrees with southerly winds increasing from cool to strong and gusty, strongest along the west coast.


“In the late afternoon and early evening, the rain will continue to spread eastward and will be heavy at times. It will clear overnight with rains from the west, some heavy or hail. Lowest temperatures 3-7 degrees with strong southwesterly winds from west to southwest and subsiding as the rain clears.

“Friday will be a bright day with sunshine and rains. These will disappear during the afternoon. Clouds will increase and rain will develop on the west coast at sunset. Higher temperatures of 8 to 11 degrees with moderate to cool winds from the southwest.

“Much of Saturday will be wet and the rain will continue. The rain will gradually clear to the east with showers afterward. Higher temperatures of 11 to 13 degrees with cool winds from south to southeast, which will then drift south to southwest. On Saturday night, the rains will continue in many areas Lower temperatures of 4 to 8 degrees.

“Sunday will be a cold and stormy day with widespread rain and risk of hail and isolated thunderstorms. There will also be some spells of sunny or bright sunshine. Higher temperatures of 9 to 13 degrees Celsius with moderate to cool winds from west to southwest.”

And next week it will be mild in most areas, with highs of 13 ° C, but plenty of rain will still be found.

One forecaster added: “On Monday, outbreaks of rain and drizzle will spread to the northeast and be persistent at times, especially in the west and northwest. There will also be some drier intervals. Higher temperatures of 11 to 13 degrees with moderate to cool winds from the south.

“Tuesday will continue to be mild with more rain in many areas.

“Wednesday will be cooler with sun and rain.”
