Smyths Ireland has urgently recalled a popular toy sold to hundreds of people in Ireland for safety concerns.

The TP Roundwood Playcentre with a product code of 183206 is affected by the recall.

There is concern that a 6mm thick hook may fail, causing the swing to collapse and possibly leading to injury.

A total of 741 of these toys have been sold in Ireland.

The Competition and Consumer Protection Commission issued a recall notice, saying that all customers should stop using the product immediately.

A JPAC spokesperson said: “A UC at Smyths Toys headquarters is conducting a voluntary recall of the ‘TP Roundwood Playcentre’ with product code 183206.

“A hazard has been identified where the 6mm thick S-hook can fail and cause the swing to fall, causing injury.

“741 affected products were sold in the Republic of Ireland.

“Smyths will communicate with affected consumers via email with next steps.

“If you think you may have purchased an affected product, please stop using it immediately and contact Smyths customer service team at 076 888 6244 or through their contact form.”
