Mom of two tragically run over in horror hit and run named locally as arrested man

A mother of two who tragically died in a hit-and-run terror has been locally named Ann Bathe.

The 48-year-old man was found on Thomas Street with serious leg injuries following the shocking incident in Newbridge, Kildare on Monday.

Sadly, Ann was rushed to Naas General Hospital, but was pronounced dead shortly thereafter and a man was arrested in connection with the collision.

She was a well-known person in the area and Gardai believes she was heading home when she was cut off.

Ann is originally from Kilcullen in the county and the mother of two children who are now considered adults.

The arrested man, in his 50s, is currently being questioned at Kildare Garda station.

Gardai has once again called for witnesses to come forward.

A garda spokesman said: “Gardaí investigating an alleged fatal crash and traffic collision that occurred in Newbridge, County Kildare on Monday 9 November 2020, arrested a man in his 50s in connection with this incident.

“The man is currently detained at Kildare Garda Station under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.

“Investigations are ongoing.

“Gardaí in Newbridge continues to appeal to anyone who witnessed this incident to come forward and to any road user who may have camera footage (including the dash cam) traveling in the area at the time to have these images are available for Gardaí.
