16 new COVID-19 deaths reported today, 270 additional cases reported

Statement from the Health Protection Surveillance Center:

The Health Protection Surveillance Center has been notified today of 16 additional deaths related to COVID-19. Of the deaths reported today, 14 occurred in November, 1 in October, and 1 remains under investigation.

There have been a total of 1,963 * COVID-19 related deaths in Ireland.

As of midnight Monday, November 9, the HPSC has been notified of 270 confirmed cases of COVID-19. There are now a total of 65,889 ** confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Ireland.

Of the cases reported today;

  • 123 are men / 147 are women
  • 56% are under 45 years old
  • The average age is 42 years.
  • 82 in Dublin, 21 in Donegal, 18 in Roscommon, 17 in Limerick, 17 in Tipperary, and the remaining 115 cases are spread across 20 other counties.

As of 2:00 p.m. today, 282 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, of which 40 are in the ICU. 21 additional hospitalizations in the last 24 hours.

Dr. Tony Holohan, Medical Director of the Department of Health, said:

The significant improvement in the disease profile is encouraging: the 14-day incidence of 152 cases per 100,000 has decreased by 51% compared to the previous two weeks.

To maintain this positive trajectory, we must be aware of the highly infectious nature of this virus, which can be easily transmitted from person to person through close contact and social mixing. Our individual daily choices to stay home and keep our contacts to a minimum are vital to reducing the spread of COVID-19.
