HSE urges the public to wear face masks instead of visors when possible

THE HEALTH SERVICE warned that face shields are less effective than masks or covers when it comes to preventing the spread of Covid-19.

The HSE said that while face shields are suitable in some “limited scenarios,” cloth face covers or masks are better at stopping the transmission of the virus.

Face shields are suitable for people with breathing difficulties, people who cannot remove their masks without help, and people with particular needs who may feel uncomfortable or uncomfortable wearing face masks.

However, Dr. John Cuddihy, director of the Center for Health Protection Surveillance, warned that visors are not as effective in stopping the spread of Covid-19 as masks are.

“After a recent review of the evidence, we know that visors are less effective than cloth face covers, and yet we all see that visors are used day to day,” he said.

“So our message today is: please wear a face cover, and please don’t see a visor as ‘that good.’ It’s not that great, and it’s really only suitable for specific circumstances. “

Earlier this year, Deputy Chief Medical Officer Dr. Ronan Glynn also urged the public to wear masks or covers instead of visors whenever possible.

“The simple message is: if possible, wear a face shield instead of a visor. Of course, there will be scenarios where people will only be able to wear a visor and in those scenarios, obviously that’s acceptable, ”he said.
