Man Arrested After Pedestrian Killed in Alleged Hit-and-Run in Co Kildare

GARDAÍ HAS ARRESTED a man after a pedestrian was killed following an alleged hit-and-run incident in Co Kildare.

Shortly after 8 pm yesterday, emergency services alerted Gardaí after the discovery of a pedestrian, in her 40s, with serious injuries on Thomas Street, Newbridge.

It is understood that the woman was hit by a vehicle.

The injured woman was taken by ambulance to Naas General Hospital, where she was pronounced dead a short time later.

At 5.45pm today, the Gardaí issued an update to say that a man in his 50s had been arrested in connection with the incident. The man is currently detained at Kildare Garda Station under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.

The local coroner has been notified and a post-mortem examination has been arranged. The result of the autopsy will determine the course of the investigation.

Gardaí is still asking for witnesses to come forward. Anyone who witnessed the incident or who has camera footage (including dash cam) of the area at the time should contact the investigating gardaí.
