The Den made a welcome return to Irish television screens on Sunday night with a host of special guests and the usual Zig, Zag and Dustin the Turkey banter.

Ray D’Arcy was back in the presenter’s chair for the first episode of the revamped show.

Judging by Twitter’s positive reaction, the childhood favorite turned out to be a relief to viewers fatigued by the coronavirus coverage.

Mark Coughlan tweeted: “Seven minutes of Dustin. I’m sold. I’m in.

“My cynicism is parked, I am nine years old again.”

Twitter user Kino added: “I am a proper grown man.

“But I’m not afraid to say that The Den is exactly what I, and I think the rest of the country, need right now.

“I’m already laughing out loud.”

Zig, Zag and Dustin made fun of Ray and the show provided a trip back in time for two women who appeared on the show in the 90s after winning a Boyzone competition.

They were invited to a Zoom talk with Ronan Keating.

The nostalgia trip continued with the return of the birthday release.

Tyrone’s farmer, Darragh O’Neill, four, also made an appearance with his brother and mother after going viral last month for his video describing how he is a “very busy man.”

Irish comedian Dara O Briain also spoke from his London home about his new book Is There Anybody Out There?

The CMAT singer performed her song Another Day KFC in a phone booth, to comply with coronavirus restrictions.

The Den returns next Sunday, November 15 on RTE One at 6.30pm.
