Cillian O’Connor feels that the new wave of young players on the Mayo panel has reinvigorated the team when they booked their spot in the Connacht final.
Mayo fired Roscommon at Dr Hyde Park, dominating the proceedings, to set up a clash against Galway.
Speaking to RTÉ Sport after a Man of the Match exhibition, O’Connor highlighted the contribution of the younger generation to Mayo’s race towards the decisive provincial.
“The guys have done really well. There are a lot of them that have settled in and some of them that are not even here today that are pushing the standards out of 26, blowing up trying to get in,” he said. .
“So they’ve added a bit of freshness and a bit of innocence to it, so we’re enjoying it, going from session to session and taking it week after week.”

O’Connor pointed to the core areas as the key to victory, as well as to overcome Roscommon’s early lead on the broken ball.
“In between we did pretty well,” he said.
“Initially we were struggling to break the ball and that was a platform for their attacks.
“Then we started to win breaks and 50:50 in between. That probably gave us a good start.”
