Scott Parker was left disappointed and angry after Ademola Lookman’s shocking pitch cost Fulham a point at West Ham.
Amazingly, Lookman chose the last shot of a match in which his team was trailing 1-0 to attempt a Panenka-style penalty.
The effort was so terrible that West Ham goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski, who had started to dash to his right, had time to get up and make the save.
He was a candidate for the worst Premier League penalty ever, and Lookman looked devastated as he left the field.
West Ham had only taken the lead in the first minute of injury time through Tomas Soucek, but thanks to Lookman’s calamity it turned out to be the winner.
Parker said: “I think right now it’s so raw, my emotions are disappointment, a little bit of anger.
“When you’re young, you make mistakes and that’s where Ade is. You can miss a penalty, but when you take one like that you have to hit the back of the net.
“Ade has been fantastic since she was here. She needs to learn from what happened tonight.
“He made a mistake, not because he missed a penalty, but because he committed one like that. And at that point in the game. He showed himself.
“He will recover. He is an incredible character who has made a small mistake.”
After a forgettable 90 minutes, the match came to life in stoppage time when West Ham’s £ 25 million new kid, Said Benrahma, pushed Soucek to fit at home.
Parker complained that Sebastien Haller was offside in preparation. “It puzzles me,” he said, but the VAR thought otherwise.
Benrahma had an impact on both ends, knocking down Tom Cairney to give Fulham a chance to take a point only for Lookman to ruin it.
Hammers manager David Moyes admitted: “If I were Scott I would be disappointed in the goal because Seb runs offside. I think the whole offside rule with the flag delay is a terrible rule.
“He said he’s a really good player, we’re bringing him in. Unfortunately, he had an impact on both pits, but luckily we did well.”
“It says a lot about the players. It’s a change for us. We’re trying not to be gullible, and if we have to win a little ugly, then so be it. I hope we continue to win like this.”
