Dr Tony Holohan, CMO, says the public response to Level 5 is “commendable” as Ireland saw case levels drop again.
There were 335 new cases and five deaths on Saturday and there are promising signs that the country could be in good shape by December 1.
Speaking today, Dr. Holohan said that a lot of effort has gone into keeping people safe.
He also gave more advice on masks and said it would be better if people used them instead of visors at work.
He said: “The commitment to the spirit of the public health council shown by people across Ireland since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic is commendable. This includes wearing a mask where social distancing is difficult, in stores and on public transportation.
“However, it is also vital that they are used correctly and safely. Make sure you completely cover your mouth and nose with the mask.

“Remember, visors do not offer the same benefits as face masks. I want to particularly emphasize that it is very important that those who work in settings such as retail avoid the use of visors and wear face masks instead.
“Masks offer much better protection, and everyone who can use them should wear them. Wearing one prevents someone who doesn’t know they have COVID-19 from spreading it to another person.
“They are a key element of our defense against this virus, in addition to staying home and avoiding meeting people outside of their home.”
