Since then, the man who came forward has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is being held at Mountjoy Garda Station.

The dead man is in his 40s and officers last night tried to communicate with his family.

A source said: “The victim appears to have been the victim of a violent assault and was dead when Gardai arrived at the property.

“It’s the early days of the investigation, but it could be related to an ongoing property dispute.

“Both the victim and the man who has been arrested know each other.”

Independent local councilman Anthony Flynn said the news was a “great shock,” adding: “The family living in the house would be well known to the community.

“Obviously the community is shocked by what happened. It was unexpected, nobody expected this to happen within our own community ”.

The body of the victim remained last night at the place where a technical examination was carried out.

Garda appealed last night for witnesses to contact Mountjoy Garda station.
