Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand criticizes the club’s decision to sell Rafael after their Champions League loss to Istanbul Basaksehir.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men had been using European matches as a welcome distraction from domestic troubles in the Premier League, beating Group H rivals Paris Saint-Germain and then smashing RB Leipzig 5-0 at Old Trafford.
However, the trip to Turkey ended with another disappointing demonstration, as former West Ham, Newcastle and Chelsea striker Demba Ba helped Basaksehir on his way to a famous 2-1 win.
MAILBOX: Solskjaer must go after the last Man Utd nadir …
The Turkish champions took the lead in the 13th minute when Ba found himself free to pick up a long ball and run from the midline before passing Dean Henderson.
Captain Edin Visca added a second five minutes before the break after Deniz Turuc stole Juan Mata to break down the left.
Although Anthony Martial cut the deficit before the break, the home side, with former Manchester United defender Rafael in the backline, remained determined to post a memorable victory.
And after the defeat, Ferdinand claimed that Man Utd should have stayed with Rafael, whom they sold to Lyon in 2015.
“We should never have sold Rafael’s #facts,” Ferdinand tweeted.
We never should have sold @ orafa2 #acts

And he followed that tweet criticizing the team for their terrible defense in conceding the first goal.
“The goals against us … please tell me someone is freaking out in that locker room and people are being held responsible,” said Ferdinand.
“The form of the team when we lose the ball for the first goal.”
The goals against us … please tell me that someone is going crazy in that dressing room and that the people are being responsible.

Meanwhile, Manchester United boss Solskjaer hit his team’s “unforgivable” defense for the first goal.
Solskjaer said BT sport: “The performance was not good enough against a team that worked and ran and hit us at halftime a couple of times. He scored two goals like you do in Europe when you don’t defend well enough.
“The first is that we play a short corner and forget about the man upstairs. That is unforgivable. The second also, we are not very well organized to counter the press.
“Two hard goals to give away and then we didn’t have enough to come back in the second half. Anthony Martial scored a good goal but in the second half we threw everything at him and we couldn’t take them down.
“We are a team and we all have a responsibility. We can play much better.
“I had a feeling [after Anthony Martial goal] and there was a lot of room to play and create but we didn’t create many opportunities.
“For them, it is a very nice victory and for us very disappointing. We need to improve a lot.
“We are Man United and we have to improve. The previous games against Arsenal we did not play our best game. Now we have to face Everton ”.
