Gardai seized a scrambler, quads and heroin when eight youths were arrested as part of an offensive against off-road bikes in West Dublin.
The arrests were made in Ballyfermot this morning after officers took away a scrambler, two quads, 2 electric bikes and heroin with an approximate street value of € 3,000.
Dublin 10 district was affected by a series of incidents involving scramblers and quads in the last month.
A young child was rushed to hospital after a collision between a quad bike and a scrambler in Cherry Orchard on September 18.
A woman in her 20s was sitting on a stationary quad bike with the baby when a scrambler, driven by a man in his late teens, struck the bike.
And just a week later, three young men and a delivery driver were rushed to hospital after a collision between a scrambler and the driver’s car on Decies Road in Ballyfermot.
Gardai said in a statement: “As part of the ongoing investigation into the dangerous and reckless use of scramblers in public parks and highways in the Ballyfermot area, Gardaí conducted a series of warrant searches at addresses in the Ballyfermot area this morning.
“The searches resulted in the seizure of a scrambler, two quads, 2 electric bikes and heroin with an approximate street value of € 3,000.
“Eight youths were arrested as part of the operation for a variety of crimes including criminal damage, dangerous driving and possession of drugs for sale or supply.
“They were detained at various Garda stations in South Dublin under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.”
